WELCOME KITS

thE Mission

Refugees arrive to the United States with very little and have to quickly begin their lives over again. Welcome Kits are a significant part of us welcoming and honoring them when they first arrive in Houston. The Kits are filled with household items that give refugees the starting essentials they need to rebuild their lives here.

There are Welcome Kits for every major area of the home: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, cleaning, personal care and even a Kit for children which includes a backpack and school supplies. The hope is that these Kits would honor refugees arriving in Houston, welcoming them with dignity, while also meeting a very tangible need. We ask that you only collect new items for these Kits (except where specified). It’s also a great opportunity to invite your friends, work teams, or small groups to build a Kit together!

If you are planning a Welcome Kit Drive please contact us at welcomekits@houstonwelcomesrefugees.com so that we can help you plan your efforts and direct you to our biggest needs. We have also developed a Welcome Kit Toolkit that we'd love to share with you that includes tips for a successful drive, sample posters and graphics to make executing your drive as easy as possible!
